Vigilius Mountain Resort: greetings from the front desk
Whoever wants to reach the Vigilius leaves the car in the valley: the resort on the Vigiljoch above Lana is reachable exclusively by the cable car that leads to 1,500 metres in a few minutes. Arriving at the top, you are welcomed by a house that the architect Matteo Thun laid into the slope like a fallen tree trunk — radically calm, radically sustainable.
“Eco, not ego.” Under this guiding principle owner Ulrich Ladurner and Matteo Thun designed the Vigilius: larch wood, glass, natural stone and clay form the material palette, and a wooden-louvre façade merges the building with the forest. As the first hotel in Italy it carries the CasaClima certificate of the highest category, A — luxury that defines itself through restraint, not through pomp.
41 rooms and the Aquiléia Spa. The house is deliberately kept small with only 41 rooms and suites. The 1,200 m² Aquiléia Spa continues the idea: an infinity pool of silver quartzite, a whirlpool, a sauna and a steam bath, plus yoga and Pilates. On the doorstep begin hiking trails with a view of the Dolomites and the Adige valley — the silence of the car-free mountain is part of the programme.
Infinity pool of silver quartzite
The Aquiléia Spa comprises 1,200 m²: an infinity pool of silver quartzite, a whirlpool, a sauna and a steam bath as well as a modern fitness area. Yoga and Pilates sessions complement the offering, and treatments work with alpine herbs and hay. A spa that — like the whole house — relies on material authenticity and calm instead of size.
Matteo Thun on the Vigiljoch
Matteo Thun laid the Vigilius into the slope like a reclining tree trunk; a façade of wooden louvres and the materials larch, glass, stone and clay bind it into the landscape. “Eco, not ego” is the motto — and as Italy's first CasaClima A hotel, sustainability here is no label but a building principle.
Arrival by cable car
The resort is car-free and reachable only by the cable car from Lana — the journey becomes a passage into a quieter world. At the top, hiking and touring trails with a view of the Dolomites await, in winter toboggan and snowshoe routes. No through traffic, no noise: the silence is part of the luxury.
Location on the Vigiljoch above Lana
The hotel lies on the Vigiljoch at 1,500 metres, high above the market town of Lana near Merano. The spa town of Merano with its promenades and thermal baths, the gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle and the Adige valley lie at the foot of the mountain.
