The Hotel Hubertus in Balderschwang belongs to the rare sort of Allgäu wellness houses that take their “unplugged” promise literally — on the day of arrival guests swap their phone for a piece of mountain cheese, the hotel runs a postcard service, and the whole programme is cut to deceleration: sleeping in until 09:30, a late-riser breakfast until 11:30, an afternoon nap in a deckchair, a lazybones lunch in a bathrobe.
