Posthotel Walhalla: greetings from the front desk
The Posthotel Walhalla**** lies in Donaustauf — embedded between the castle ruin above the town and the Danube meadows directly on the river, at the foot of King Ludwig I's classicist Walhalla temple. Around 15 minutes' drive east of the UNESCO World Heritage city of Regensburg. 71 rooms in different categories, a new complimentary wellness area, a sauna landscape, a fitness room, beauty treatments and conference rooms — four-star comfort in an unusually culture-laden position.
Wellness and sauna landscape
The newly designed wellness area is available to hotel guests free of charge — a sauna landscape with several sauna types, a steam bath, an outdoor area and rest zones with a view of the castle ruin. Conceived for relaxation and a holistically comfortable body feeling, not for maximum square metres.
Beauty and spa treatments
Massages and beauty treatments complement the house, including the house's own facial treatment “Forster”, which has survived the rebrand as a treatment name. Bookable wellness vouchers make treatments accessible without an overnight stay too.
Fitness room with a town-wall view
The fitness room opens the view onto the historic town wall of Donaustauf — a rare hotel-fitness backdrop, with modern equipment.
Rooms in 71 variants
71 rooms in various categories and sizes — modernly equipped, in a mix of classic hotel culture and contemporary materials. Conference rooms are set up separately and are available for events.
Breakfast restaurant and bar
The house concentrates its gastronomy on the breakfast restaurant — a buffet with regional ingredients, complemented by a bar for the evening. In the evening the proximity to Regensburg and the Danube provides culinary options outside the house.
Location between Walhalla and Danube
Donaustauf lies around 15 minutes' drive east of Regensburg on the Danube; above the town sits the Walhalla, King Ludwig I's classicist hall of fame from 1842. Hiking and cycle paths begin directly at the hotel; the castle ruin, the Walhalla and the Danube meadows are reachable on foot. The Czech Republic is a scant hour's drive away.

Frequently asked questions about the hotel
Does the wellness area cost extra?
No — the newly designed wellness area is available to hotel guests free of charge: a sauna landscape with several sauna types, a steam bath, an outdoor area and rest zones with a view of the castle ruin.
Massages and beauty treatments are booked separately; via wellness vouchers the treatments are accessible without an overnight stay too.
Is there an evening restaurant in the house?
The house deliberately concentrates its gastronomy on the breakfast restaurant (a buffet with regional ingredients) and a bar for the evening. Dinner is taken care of by the location: Donaustauf itself and Regensburg, 15 minutes' drive away, offer plenty of culinary options.
How far is Regensburg — and what lies within walking distance?
The UNESCO World Heritage city of Regensburg lies around 15 minutes' drive to the west. Directly at the door: the Walhalla, the castle ruin above the town and the Danube meadows — all on foot, hiking and cycle paths begin at the hotel.
Whoever wants to reach further: the Czech Republic is a scant hour's drive away.
Walhalla — what stands above the town?
The Walhalla is a classicist hall of fame that King Ludwig I of Bavaria had built above Donaustauf in 1842. Inspired by the Parthenon in Athens, it houses busts and plaques of famous figures of German-speaking history. The building is reachable on foot from Donaustauf via the Walhalla-Straße and a long system of stairs.
How big is the Posthotel Walhalla?
71 rooms in various categories — the mix of classic hotel culture and contemporary materials runs through the house. Separately set-up conference rooms make the hotel interesting for events too, and the fitness room has a rare backdrop: the view of the historic town wall of Donaustauf.
Rebrand: Forsters Posthotel → Posthotel Walhalla
The house operates today under “Posthotel Walhalla” and under the domain posthotel-walhalla.de. The former address “Forsters Posthotel” is no longer in use — the domain forsters-posthotel.de is expressly disclaimed by the hotel (banner on the current homepage).
What has remained of the treatment brands from the previous identity: the facial treatment “Forster” as a branded treatment line.
