Fulda & the Vogelsberg — wellness & culture go well together

The largest city in East Hesse has a good deal to offer and lends itself outstandingly to a wellness holiday. Fulda holds a great many cultural sights, and the nature around the city invites you to hike and switch off.

Sights in Fulda

If you want to talk about sights in Fulda, the first is of course Fulda Cathedral. Officially called the “Cathedral of St Salvator in Fulda” or the “High Cathedral of Fulda”, it is the city's landmark. Known far beyond the city limits, it is famous above all through Saint Boniface, who is buried there and in whose honour the annual Boniface pilgrimage is held.

There are many further religious sights in Fulda; the city's prominent position in Hesse as a bishop's see is plain to see. But Fulda also offers many interesting secular buildings, such as the city palace, Fasanerie Palace or the Orangery.

We recommend enjoying the baroque part of the old town over a coffee and simply strolling around a little. There is much to discover — but you are here under the heading “wellness holiday in Fulda” and do not want to make it a study trip. Although in Fulda that would of course be very rewarding.

Nature and excursion destinations nearby

You need a change from busy city life and want to enjoy the nature around Fulda? Then we recommend looking towards the Vogelsberg. The “Hoher Vogelsberg Nature Park” is almost as large as the whole of Berlin and offers the most varied leisure possibilities. At its centre lies the Vogelsberg that gives it its name, an extinct volcano that rises to a height of 773 metres at the Taufstein. In fact the entire Vogelsberg upland is the largest contiguous volcanic area in Central Europe.

Here you can discover the natural and cultural landscape on foot, by bike or on horseback, or take up one of the numerous excursion offers. If you prefer it less active you can of course also travel to the loveliest spots by bus or in your own vehicle and simply enjoy the view. The relaxation you need after an eventful day you will then find, for example, at the Hotel Esperanto.
