The Fontenay: greetings from the front desk
In 2018 The Fontenay redrew the picture of Hamburg's luxury hotel-keeping. Instead of classic grand-hotel symmetry the architects Störmer Murphy and Partners created an organically curved round building of three intertwined circles, turning around a light-flooded atrium almost 27 metres high — directly at one of the most beautiful spots on the Outer Alster. The house is not loud but flowing; its high point lies under the sky.
The rooftop spa. On the roof of the house the Fontenay Spa extends over around 1,000 m². Its heart is a 20-metre pool that leads from the indoor into the outdoor area — whoever swims here looks over the rooftops of Hamburg and the wide expanse of the Outer Alster. Add saunas, rest rooms and treatment cabins, all turned towards light and water. A city spa that makes its position the programme.
Architecture and cuisine. The round building with its curved walls and trapezoidal rooms is a sight in itself; at the centre the glass atrium rises through all floors. Culinarily the house leads with the starred restaurant Lakeside on the seventh floor, whose window front offers perhaps the most beautiful restaurant view in the city over the Alster, as well as the Parkview on the atrium.
Fontenay Spa — 1,000 m² above the Alster
The Fontenay Spa lies on the roof of the house and comprises around 1,000 m². The centre is formed by a 20-metre pool that passes seamlessly from the indoor into the outdoor area — while swimming the view reaches over the rooftops of Hamburg and the Outer Alster. Add saunas, a steam bath, rest zones and treatment rooms as well as a fitness area. The day spa can be booked to a limited extent by external guests too; the view is without competition in Hamburg.

The starred restaurant Lakeside on the seventh floor offers international cuisine and one of the most spectacular views in the city over the Outer Alster. Things are more informal at the Parkview on the atrium; the bar rounds off the offering.
Location on the Outer Alster
The Fontenay stands on the street Fontenay in the district of Rotherbaum, directly on the western shore of the Outer Alster — walks along the water begin at the door. The city centre, the Jungfernstieg and the Inner Alster are a few minutes away, as are the university quarter and Pöseldorf.
