In 1897 Friedrich Haerlin acquired on his 40th birthday a small “Hotel zu den Vier Jahreszeiten” with just eleven rooms and formed out of it over the decades one of the first addresses in Europe — directly on the Neuer Jungfernstieg, with a view over the Inner Alster. To this day the name stands for restrained, classic luxury in the middle of the Hanseatic city.
