Das Ludwig: greetings from the front desk

Das Ludwig in Bad Griesbach in the Rottal — four-star superior in the Quellness & Golf Resort, today positioned as “Das Ludwig Sports Resort”: “Recharge. Push boundaries. Feel nature.”

From family hotel to sports resort. For years Das Ludwig was the only designated family hotel of the resort group — hospitality, Bavarian tradition and cosy comfort have always belonged together here. Under the roof of Guessa Capital Invest B.V. (since April 2025) the house sharpens its profile as a sports resort without cutting these roots: whoever arrives with family still finds four heated pools indoors and outdoors; whoever wants to train finds a concept that understands activity as a natural part of the stay.

3,000 m² of water, warmth and regeneration. The spa and sauna landscape is directly connected to the Ludwig thermal bath — the Quellness promise of the Bad Griesbach location is taken literally here. Add the “Tower of Power”: Technogym® training areas with strength, cardio and functional equipment plus a TrackMan indoor golf simulator, all year and regardless of the weather. On the doorstep begin running, hiking and Nordic-walking trails — and five 18-hole championship courses of the largest golf resort on the European mainland.

Spa and thermal bath

A 3,000 m² spa and sauna landscape, four heated pools (indoor/outdoor), classic saunas and rest zones with Blackroll cushions for regeneration — the house's own spa is directly connected to the Ludwig thermal bath, which stands for the resort's Quellness positioning.

Tower of Power — Technogym fitness and TrackMan

The “Tower of Power” is the flagship of the sports-resort concept: a modern Technogym® training area with strength, cardio and functional equipment, complemented by a TrackMan indoor golf simulator that stays playable all year regardless of the weather. Running, hiking and Nordic-walking trails begin at the door.

Golf — Bad Griesbach as a location

Bad Griesbach is the largest golf resort on the European mainland. Das Ludwig has direct access to five 18-hole championship courses in the surrounding Quellness & Golf Resort; green-fee packages and indoor training options via the TrackMan simulator form the bridge between training room and course.

Rooms in nine categories

From the single room (26 m²) to the grand suite (100 m² with its own Finnish sauna) — nine room categories in different design lines, from the Bavarian-rustic style via shabby chic to modern fittings. Most rooms with a balcony or terrace.

Cuisine — from breakfast to the Heuriger

A breakfast buffet with regional products to start the day, at lunchtime and in the evening Mediterranean, international and Bavarian cuisine. In the wine restaurant “Zum Heurigen” you dine in a rustic atmosphere with live music — a detail that carries the house's family-hotel tradition over into the sports-resort concept.

Location in Bad Griesbach im Rottal

Bad Griesbach lies in the Lower Bavarian Rottal, in the Quellness & Golf Resort — one of the densest wellness and golf regions in Bavaria. Das Ludwig is the only designated family hotel of the resort group and connected on foot with the sister houses Maximilian and Fürstenhof at the same location.

Frequently asked questions about the hotel

How big is the wellness area — and what belongs to it?

A 3,000 m² spa and sauna landscape with four heated pools indoors and outdoors, classic saunas and rest zones with Blackroll cushions for regeneration. The special feature is the direct connection to the Ludwig thermal bath — the thermal water of the Bad Griesbach location belongs to the house concept here, not to the excursion programme.

On the treatment side the programme reaches from classic massages via aromatherapy, body and facial treatments to beauty treatments; add the fitness programme in the house's own “Tower of Power”.

Tower of Power — what is behind it?

The “Tower of Power” is the fitness pillar of the Ludwig: a modern Technogym® training area with strength, cardio and functional equipment, complemented by a TrackMan indoor golf simulator. The concept addresses guests who understand activity as part of the stay — training sessions between spa phases, usable all year regardless of weather and golf season.

Is Das Ludwig suited to a golf holiday?

Hardly any location suits better: Das Ludwig lies in the Quellness & Golf Resort Bad Griesbach, the largest golf resort on the European mainland, with direct access to five 18-hole championship courses. Green-fee packages bridge hotel and course.

The golf season runs from April to October, in mild years into November — and outside it the TrackMan simulator stays in the house: swing analysis and indoor rounds work in January too.

Is Das Ludwig something for families despite the sports focus?

Yes — for years the house was the only designated family hotel of the resort group, and these roots carry on: four heated pools indoors and outdoors, nine room categories from the single room (26 m²) to the grand suite (100 m² with its own Finnish sauna), plus a kitchen that serves Bavarian, Mediterranean and international fare at lunchtime and in the evening.

The sports-resort focus complements rather than replaces that: whoever wants to train trains — whoever splashes with children splashes.

When is the best time to travel to Bad Griesbach?

The thermal region works all year round — the thermal baths are open 365 days. April to June and September to November count as insider phases: pleasant weather, well-occupied but not overcrowded houses, mid-range prices.

Winter is the underrated peak season for thermal bathing — steaming outdoor pools in frosty air, the emptiest pools of the year. High summer belongs to families: thermal days combined with the Danube and Inn cycle paths and boat trips to Passau.

Is the house called “Das Ludwig” or “Das Ludwig Sports Resort” today?

Both are in circulation — the domain ludwig-badgriesbach.com redirects to sportresortludwig.com, and the hotel name stays “Das Ludwig” in marketing. The “Sports Resort” branding came with the change of ownership after the Hartl era and underlines the house's fitness and golf focus.
