Schönried lies a few metres above Gstaad, on a sun terrace from which the Saanenland and its summits can be seen in full breadth. Here stands the ERMITAGE — a house that did not imitate Alpine wellness but helped shape it: when it had the first brine pool in the Alps filled with water, it set a standard the industry later followed.
A pioneer, freshly renewed. The ERMITAGE has carried its reputation as a trailblazer of mountain wellness for decades; in 2011 it returned after a nine-month renovation, and in 2019 the spa was once more completely extended. Today indoor and outdoor pools, an outdoor hot tub, several saunas, a steam bath and a tepidarium line up — bathing and warmth worlds that bring the founding promise of the brine tradition into the present.
A chalet with a view. The house is a Swiss chalet in the best sense: plenty of wood, 58 rooms, each with a seating corner and a balcony facing the view, embedded in a park of its own. Over it all lies the calm of the high position and the renown of Gstaad, which half a valley ride away provides worldliness without Schönried itself needing any of it.
The brine pioneer of the mountains
The ERMITAGE counts as the house of the first brine pool in the Alps — a model the Alpine hotel trade later followed. This tradition shapes the spa to this day: brine and water worlds stand at the centre, complemented by a broad treatment offering of massages as well as facial and body treatments.
The spa extended in 2019
In 2019 the wellness area was completely extended: indoor and outdoor pools, an outdoor hot tub with a mountain view, several saunas, a steam bath and a tepidarium line up into a well-thought-out bathing and warmth landscape. The high position and the Saanenland panorama accompany every step outdoors.

The chalet in traditional style counts 58 rooms, each with a seating corner, a minibar and a balcony facing the view. Plenty of wood, warm materials and the view over the Saanenland shape the rooms — Swiss mountain hospitality in its homeliest form.

Schönried lies on a sunny terrace above Gstaad, with a panoramic view of the summits of the Saanenland. In winter the lifts lead into the Gstaad-Saanenland ski area, in summer hiking and bike trails begin at the house; fashionable Gstaad with its promenade is only a short drive away.
