When the climate is the remedy
The climatic health resort is the only spa-town designation whose remedy is invisible: the climate itself. The title is awarded only if a place has its bioclimate measured over years and demonstrates therapeutically usable properties — clean air low in allergens and pollutants, thermally stimulating but not overtaxing conditions, sufficient sun. Duties come with it: climate-therapeutic facilities, designated terrain-cure paths, ongoing monitoring of air quality.
How climate therapy works
The classic form is the terrain cure: measured exercise on surveyed paths of varying gradient, in the low-stimulus to mildly stimulating air of the place — the body trains, the airways breathe out, and the climate works alongside. It is complemented by rest cures in the fresh air and by the simplest application of all: being outside, daily, in tested air.
Low mountains, high altitudes, coast
Healing climate comes in three flavours: the gentle low-mountain climate (Bodenmais in the Bavarian Forest at 689 metres — effective without altitude adjustment), the demanding high-mountain climate of the alpine positions and the bracing climate of the coasts, which trades as a designation of its own in the seaside and sea-spa towns. Which level fits depends on constitution and concern — the milder one is almost always the wiser for beginners.
For the wellness holiday
A spa hotel in a climatic health resort has an invisible second spa: every walk, every hour on the balcony pays into the recreation account. Houses like the Mooshof in Bodenmais build on exactly that — a secluded position in tested air, an activity programme at the door, a spa for afterwards. Whoever brings exhaustion or airway concerns is best off choosing the holiday place by the designation straight away.
